GAMUT TO BUILD NEW FIRE STATION & SENIOR CENTER IN SAN CLEMENTE, CA

Some big changes are coming to downtown San Clemente – a new fire station/senior center and an expansion of the San Clemente Library. Dignitaries and senior citizens gathered this afternoon at 121 Avenida Victoria for a ceremonial groundbreaking for the 8,000-square-foot Dorothy Visser Senior Center. It could open in the next 15 months, sharing a building with a new fire station that will replace a 47-year-old station at City Hall.

“Gamut Construction is proud and honored to have been chosen to build this beautiful new senior center that will mean so much to San Clemente’s senior population. Nearly 8% of households in San Clemente have at least one person over the age of 65 so the need is apparent and thanks to the generous support of the community as well as the agencies involved, it will become a reality over the next year or so. We feel fortunate to have been chosen from some very stiff competition and you can rest assured that Gamut will deliver a stunning project that this City will be proud of for years to come,” noted Gamut President Mark Scarlatelli.

San Clemente has long desired a fire station west of I-5.The new senior center will replace a 4,500-square-foot center that has operated since 1982 at 242 Avenida Del Mar, occupying one end of the landmark San Clemente LIbrary building. The new sen- ior center, officials said, will offer expanded activities, a computer/technology lab, the Mary and Gary West Foundation Wellness Center, daily lunch programs and a Meals on Wheels outreach.

In addition to building senior centers Gamut is also well known for our fire stations which require special construction expertise. The City’s new fire station will be housed right next door so when you hear the sirens it will not mean that lunch is being served in the center.

As a a coastal resort, residents want to preserve the pristine nature of San Clemente and limit the impact on the environment. Gamut is already working on LEED certified projects and we employ sustainability practices whenever possible in every facet of our construction activities.

“My thanks to the Mayor, City Council, and the building Department for placing your trust in Gamut. We are excited and ready to get started on a project that will deliver on two fronts. A much needed social center and gathering place for seniors and a strategi- cally located fire station to add to public safety in this beautiful town,” conclued Scarlatelli.

Gamut Companies is based in Montclair, CA and has been responsible for over $100 million in construction since 1993. Gamut is currently expanding its REO operations to include the West Coast, Texas and Florida. For more information visit www.gamutcompanies.com.
